Submission Guidelines for Book Reviews Submitted to the Trinity Journal

All submissions must follow the SBL Handbook of Style (Billie Jean Collins, et al., eds., The SBL Handbook of Style for Biblical Studies and Related Disciplines (2nd ed.; Atlanta: SBL, 2014).

• The due dates for submission of book reviews are August 15 for the Fall issue, and February 15 for the Spring issue.
• The title of the review should be as follows: First and Last Name of the author. Book Title: Subtitle where applicable. City of Publication: Publisher, Year of Publication. Number of Pages. Price.
• The review should include a descriptive portion that summarizes the main content of the book as well as a brief evaluative part highlighting any strength and/or weakness of the book.
• Page citation after a quotation should be in parenthesis and should come after the closing quotation mark but before the final punctuation mark. For example: “…the end” (p. 1).
• Word count should be strictly 1,000 – 1,250 words.
• Recommended font style is Times New Roman, 12 point size, and single line-spacing.
• The reviewer’s full name and institutional affiliation should come at the end of the review and aligned to the right.

Submission Guidelines for Articles Submitted to the Trinity Journal

The journal uses a blind review process for the editorial board; please ensure that your name does not appear in any part of the text, footnotes, filename, or document properties. 

Please include a current CV with your submission.

Please allow about 3 months for a response from the editorial board. 

By submitting an article via Submittable, you are affirming that 

• you will secure permission (and pay any required fees) for using any previously (copyrighted) published material; 
• the article does not use another’s work without proper citation (i.e., that the submission has not been plagiarized);
• the article does not contain any unlawful material; 
• the article has not been published elsewhere and has not been submitted for publication elsewhere during the period that it has been submitted to the Trinity Journal.

Articles should be formatted as follows:

• all submissions must follow the SBL Handbook of Style (Billie Jean Collins, et al., eds., The SBL Handbook of Style for Biblical Studies and Related Disciplines (2nd ed.; Atlanta: SBL, 2014)
• Microsoft Word files
• Times New Roman font; 12 point font size
• double-line spaced text
• single-line spaced footnotes (NO endnotes)
• single space between sentences
• page numbers (bottom right)
• clear “main headings” and “subheadings”
• “Style” as “Normal” 
• Greek, Hebrew, and diacritical marks in Unicode font 

Submissions should not exceed 10,000 words (excluding footnotes). 

The first reference to an author in the text should include the full name as it commonly appears in published works; subsequent references should only use the author’s last name. If there are multiple authors with the same last name, please ensure that initials clarify which author is intended (e.g., A. Jones, B. Jones, C. Jones). 

The first reference to a work in the footnotes should include all bibliographic information; subsequent references should include the author’s last name and an abbreviated reference to the book/article. Please do not include a final bibliography. 

Include translations (preferably your own) for all quotations in languages other than English, including Greek, Hebrew, Aramaic, Latin, French, German, etc.

NOTE: If you do not yet have a PhD, please supply a letter of recommendation from your dissertation supervisor/committee member noting that this individual has read the article and deems it acceptable for publication. This letter does not guarantee the submitted article will be accepted for publication, however. If you do not have a PhD and are not pursuing one, please include with your CV a brief statement of formal theological education/training.
